The Movies is exactly what it was promised to be: A simulation of the movie industry from the dawn of Hollywood to present day. Manage your employees, send actors to rehab, build a studio and become a major mogul in the movie industry. Fable was a major game for Xbox, and in many ways it was a disappointment: It was quick, and many of the insanely innovative game ideas we originally heard about were tamed into merely interesting or innovative ideas. In the end, it could never shake the glory of what had initially been promised when legendary designer Peter Molyneaux first spoke about Fable. Now the Xbox receives the polished and buffed version of Fable that was released earlier this Fall for the PC. Fable: The Lost Chapters adds a bunch of new content to the game, ranging from new bosses to new moves and spells. It\'s a welcome addition to the game, and reminds us why Fable remains a game every Xbox owner must play: It\'s fun. Get the full review from Chris Martin right here.

As well received as Perfect Dark and Call of Duty 2 have been, it\'s possible that King Kong might be the best first person shooter available on the Xbox 360, if you\'re into the fantastic. With a launch line-up that includes at least 7 titles that you\'ll wanna play, the 360 isn\'t lacking for quality games, but King Kong manages to combine artistic direction and solid gameplay into a single-player experience that you simply won\'t find elsewhere.

One of the titles we\'re most excited about this Fall is Peter Jackson\'s King Kong, the game based on the movie. The combination of Peter Jackson\'s visual storytelling and Michel Ancel, Ubisoft\'s resident super game designer, is a potentially dynamic duo that has so far demonstrated an incredible game in the making. Now, Ubisoft sends word that they will host public preview events for the game in New York City and Los Angeles, the week before the game hits stores for pretty much every platform on the planet. The preview events will be major affairs, featuring a full mock-up of Skull Island and 11 kiosks where gamers can experience King Kong, the game, in full big-screen, HD glory on Xbox 360. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh to Head HALO Adaptation

In an announcement sure to get gamers everywhere all worked up, Microsoft announced at the X05 Amsterdam expo that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (creators of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy and the upcoming King Kong) will be Executive Producers on the upcoming Halo movie. The news also means that Academy Award winning New Zealand effects house, Weta Digital, will also be involved in the movie, which is another great sign. It looks like Halo might just set the bar a little higher for the old game-to-film adaptation, just as it did for the console-based FPS and again for console-based online multiplayer.

To top it off, after three days of marathon truck-driving, Val still managed to pull off the Podcast before Midnight tonight. Sega Announces New Strategy

Peter Moore, President and Chief Operating Officer for Sega of America, held a press teleconference this morning to detail Sega of America's plans for 2001 and to comment on Sega's worldwide strategy. In addition to announcing a new $99 price tag for Dreamcast beginning February 4 (the Sega Smash Pack will now be priced at $119), the company has decided on some strategies to move Sega from a lagging hardware manufacturer, to a "top of the heap" software developer and publisher. Moore outlined a three-pronged approach that will go into effect April 1 this year and continue through at least March of 2002. The basic approach involves the following:

Sega is now a "platform agnostic" third-party game developer/publisher.
Sega will license the DC chipset.
Sega will focus on network strengths.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences held their third annual Interactive Achievement Awards last Thursday, May 11, 2000 in LA. In the midst of E3, the IAAs have gained some notoriety, and with good reason. It was an all-star event, featuring Martin Short as emcee, and with celebrity guest presenters like Ahmet Zappa, Peter Molyneux, Sid Meier, and Harry Shearer. Of course, some of the winners were luminaries in their own right like Bruce Shelley, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Will Wright. In all, it was a great evening, and some of the greatest games from the last year were given their proper recognition. Of course, there were some disappointments (Knockout Kings over Tony Hawk's Pro Skater?!?). We've summed it all up below for your viewing pleasure.
